Just so, why can concave mirrors not be used as rear view mirrors in vehicles?
Concave mirrors are not used as rare view because they will give an inverted image of the vehicles behind and for the driver it will be tough to assess the right position of the image coming from behind.
Likewise, can a concave mirror be used as the side view mirror of a car why? Convex mirrors are used as side view mirrors as they have a wider field of view. Convex mirrors form virtual, erect and diminished images of the object placed in front of it. All these characteristics of a convex mirror are ideal for a side view mirror.
In this manner, can we use concave mirror as a rear-view mirror?
If we place an object in front of a concave mirror beyond its focus then the mirror forms the real inverted and a magnified image of the object. Hence concave mirrors cannot be used as a rear view mirror.
Why can a concave mirror not be used in place of convex lens in rear-view mirror?
A concave mirror always gives a real and inverted image for the distant object which is not suitable for the vehicle. So instead of a concave mirror we are supposed to use the convex mirror because it always forms the smaller image. So we can't use the concave mirror because it does not give the whole field of view.
