Also asked, can filter shrimp survive?
Photosynthesis will take place naturally and algae will grow and feed the fish. But doing so to a shrimp will probably kill it ! Shrimp will not survive without a biological filter and air supply.
Similarly, how do you keep shrimp from being sucked into a filter? if you have stockings or filter media bags, tie that over the intake. use a rubber band to seal the edges. I used a ziptie. that will keep the shrimp out and allow water to flow.
Secondly, how do you make a frying filter safe?
One thing you could do is put a nursery net into the tank - the fine mesh kind. That will stop the fry from being sucked into the filter, and will also make feeding easier.
Is surface skimmer safe for shrimp?
I wouldn't risk it if you are breeding expensive shrimp. Shrimp are adventurous and climb and jump all over the place. Just add more sponge filters to break up the surface and you shouldn't have any surface scum.
