Reader services - to see items in our collections you need to register for a free Reader Pass and a British Library Online Account.
- You can register in person, or pre-register online. Register for a Reader Pass.
- Once registered for a pass, you must get an account for Reader services.
Furthermore, can you take photos in the British Library? Visitors to the British Library are welcome to take photographs in our public areas. However photography is not permitted in the exhibition spaces or Reading Rooms. Flash photography should also be avoided around the King's Library.

There are a wide choice of places to eat and drink across the Library site, which are open from 09.00 – 17.30. You can expect great food and coffee, combined with exceptional front of house service from our partners Graysons and Origin Coffee.

You need to come to the Library to access the majority of these resources. You need to use PCs in our Reading Rooms to access the majority of our electronic resources. A small number can be accessed on a personal device. A Reader Pass will allow you to enter our Reading Rooms.
